Our Impression of the car
First of all it has an idle stop feature so while at a red light or simply not moving is dead quiet. You need to have the radio on or open the window to hear some noise. This takes time to get used to. The Engine and Electric Motor combination is simply genius. The Electric motor attached between the engine and transmission is a work of art. The car has lots of torque and zips of down the road with no hesitation. To test load capacity we recruited one largely challenged (fat) Canadian and two Super Size Me Americans. Adding this weight and to offset the single Canadian factor we enlisted the help of 4 cases of beer. We test drove the vehicle for the day and discussed the vehicle in dept at the riverside barbeque test grounds. Overall we loved the car and the fact we can have one while or buddies overseas cant. Our test drive experience cost us $12 in gas (three gallons or 12 liters), $65 in beer, $73 Food . We drove 174 Kilometers (104 Miles) and made it back with gasoline still in the tank. Would I buy one? $18,000......hmmm, Lets see, our shop vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Hi Ace Van that has 140,000 Kilo's and averages $1500~$2000 a month in Gasoline cost. The Hi Ace and its Purpose is to transport Largely Challenged staff and customers with extra cargo. The little Daihatsu past the largely challenged (fat guy) test so weight issue has been overcome. So doing the math, $2000 (gas) x12 = $24000 fuel the Toyota Hiace for a year......The Daihatsu price is $18,000, that means we get the car for free! Yes, we will buy one.
